Okay, it’s time to ditch the store-bought sauce. Bottled BBQ sauce is great, but try making your own when you’re feeling creative and want to take your BBQ chicken to the next level. Use my Yahoo BBQ Sauce recipe. It is a no-cook sauce that you can make in under two minutes. It’s tangy, with a hint of smoky heat and sweetness. You will love it!
Follow my instructions on how I get my BBQ chicken crisped to perfection, leaving you with juicy meat and an irresistible charred exterior.
Grilled BBQ Chicken
Equipment
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 BBQ grill
- 1 whisk
- 1 platter
- 1 silicone pastry brush
- 1 meat thermometer
- 1 small funnel
- 1 long handle grilling tongs
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into parts with skin
- 1 Yahoo BBQ Sauce recipe
Instructions
- Preheat BBQ grill. Set on high. The grill is ready when the temperature reaches 400 degrees.
- Click on link for Yahoo BBQ Sauce. Using a whisk, mix the BBQ sauce ingredients. Whisk to make sure all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Use the funnel to pour BBQ sauce into the empty Heinz ketchup bottle you used in this recipe. Doing this will prevent contaminating any leftover BBQ sauce. Set aside.
- Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and arrange it on a rimmed baking sheet. Cover and let sit out until it is at room temperature. The time may be about one hour, depending on the season. Letting meat come to its natural temperature will ensure that your chicken cooks and browns evenly. Please read the following instructions from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on leaving chicken out at room temperature. *According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), raw chicken should not be left out at room temperature for more than two hours. If the temperature in the room is above 90°F (32°C), then the time limit decreases to one hour
- Place the chicken bone side down on the grill. Close the grill and cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway.
- Set the grill's center knob(s) to low. Baste the chicken with BBQ sauce on both sides, then move it to the center of the grill and let it cook for 15 - 20 minutes, flipping the chicken occasionally. Move the chicken to the hot sides of the grill. Baste with BBQ sauce again while flipping them over. Repeat until chicken is crisp.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness. When done, the inner temp of the chicken reads at 165 degrees, but do not leave it on the grill until it reaches an internal temp of 165 – remove it from the grill when it is around just under 165 degrees and then let it rest off the grill. As it rests, it will continue to cook. The inner temperature can continue to rise an additional 10 degrees. Let chicken rest for ten minutes before serving.
