Bright and Tangy BBQ Sauce
Equipment
- 1 whisk
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 funnel
Ingredients
- 16 oz bottle Heinz ketchup- (keep bottle)
- ¾ cup red wine vinegar
- 1½ tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 2½ teas smoked paprika
- 2 teas kosher salt
- 2½ tbsp ground dry mustard
- ¼ cup dark brown sugar
- pinch cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients with a whisk. You can use the sauce right away. If you refrigerate it for 24 hours,it will give the spices time to mix and become more flavorful.
- Use funnel and pour mixed BBQ sauce into the empty Heinz ketchup bottle you used in this recipe. Squeeze the amount of BBQ sauce as needed. Doing this will prevent contaminating the leftover BBQ sauce with raw meat.
- This sauce will keep for two weeks in the refrigerator. You can freeze BBQ sauce for up to 3 months.
Notes
The taste of BBQ sauce is a personal preference. First, try this recipe as is. If you prefer more spice, add more cayenne, BUT remember the longer cayenne cooks the spicier it gets.
Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your taste. If sweet is not your thing- eliminate it all together.
If you want more tangy-tasting BBQ sauce, add more red wine vinegar or substitute apple cider vinegar.
